What PERFECT “interpenetración” as they say in Spanish between the singer and the pianist! “Mikey, just give them a little 30 seconds to..” and how he obliges…. Video does an excellent job of capturing the dialogue too. A toast to Ms. Jones, of course, but also a very big toast to all the world’s accompanying musicians. … Delicious!!!!

Ilove her…she is so good, so great….

Are you sure this is 1985? I thought she’d kicked the habit by 1984. It looks more like sometime between 1980 and 1983.

Also, this was taped in 1985. The woman is still goin strong.

She hits the notes, gives the song more guts and gush than anyone. Props to Miss Jones.

Poor Rickie

rickie is a great performer, had only ever listened to cds and was pleasantly surprised to see clips like this. totally gallas. maybe i am just another self indulgent spectacle????

She is a true talent. Always was and always will be but I hate to see anyone so out of control and stoned. I will always wish she could have pulled herself together and stopped being such a self indulgent spectacle. Strange lady.. i love her and dislike her at the same time. Her gifts seem to have come at too high a price. Sober up you sweet person.

she holds that song like a baby

this is something special

thank you for playing s little Rickie Lee
this is one of my favs’ of hers’

may 2606 I totally agree. Her jazz standards are so amazing. I love her album pop pop.
Took my mom to her show in Amsterdam last year and was so disappointed we left half way during the show. It sucked and she was stoned, so was the rest of her band.

I honestly believe Rickie Lee Jones is maybe the best interpreter of jazz standards this side of the ’50s. She’s very different to Billie Holiday and Nina Simone but I’d put her up there. She makes this completely her own, and you believe every word. As well as this one, songs like “Something Cool” on Girl At Her Volcano really show off her vocal prowess. She’s very diverse. I think this performance must be around 1982. I love it - thanks for uploading!

Jazz

isnt rickie just wonderful,my fave song is company,my mam bought me a tape about 2 years ago,out of the blue from a charity shop,id never heard of her,it only cost 50p,its one of the best tapes i have, makes me laugh and cry,and ill always treasure it,best 50p my ma ever spent !! lol

she sounds best a tad stoned and slurry.

too bad you might not know what you’re talking about and you’d be lucky to have a pinky full of her true, hearfelt talent
